Assad replaces defence minister, Syria isolation grows (AFP)

Saudi Arabia and Kuwait recalled their envoys to Damascus after the Arab League condemned violence in Syria, leaving President Bashar al-Assad further isolated as he defended his crackdown on AFP - President Bashar al-Assad named a new defence minister Monday as he faced regional isolation after three Gulf states recalled their envoys and Sunni Islam's top authority urged an end to Syria's bloodshed.
