Israel, Hamas announce deal on captured soldier (AP)

Schalit was captured June 25 by Hamas-linked militants in the Gaza Strip who attacked an Israeli army outpost in southern Israel.  An Israeli official says Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has convened his Cabinet to approve a prisoner swap deal that would bring home a captured Israeli soldier held by Hamas militants. The official says the Cabinet is meeting in the coming minutes to discuss 'something serious.' He gave no further details, but Israel Radio said the deal would bring home Sgt. Gilad Schalit in early November in exchange for some 1,000 Palestinian militants held by Israel. (AP Photo, File)  NO SALESAP - Israeli and Hamas officials announced late Tuesday that they have reached a prisoner swap deal to free a captured Israeli soldier held in the Gaza Strip in exhange for hundreds of Palestinian prisoners, capping five years of painful negotiations that have repeatedly collapsed in fingerpointing and violence.
